LIFE SPENT ON DAILY ACTIVITIES
- By Prax, 14th July 2020
This time we were really jobless in our lives, let us say it was because of “quarantine” 😇. So, we randomly started googling weird stuffs like “average time a human takes for peeing” (lets draw a line there 😉). Then, an idea occurred in my brilliant mind that this deserves a “Useless Data” post. Just in case you are new to this blog, check out our previous post here.
Now, let us proceed with our methods.
Disclaimer: Our methods are very unreliable and do not account for multitasking 😊
Just googled and did some “awesome” calculations to generalize the time for an average human lifespan [79 years].
For example, if a person takes about a minute in cutting (and peeling) an average size potato and eats about 1 potato per day in his/her lifetime (compensating for the time when you overeat those fries and wedges, and also for the time when someone else cooks for you); that would give us an average time of 1 minute/day. Then this number is simply taken as a fraction to generalize over 79 years of a human lifespan to give a result of 20 days of our lives doing this particular activity. That’s a whopping 28835 potatoes in your lifetime 😅 !! Which also roughly estimates to 0.07% of your lifespan. You could have easily utilized this time in watching the entire Star Wars series (including the two side ones) about 20 times.
I told you, I did some awesome calculations 😎
After googling for about nine days to get you guys the best unreliable information available out there, here’s the summary of all the time we waste (or utilize, I guess it is subjective 😀) doing an activity (use landscape mode on mobile for the best experience):
Hover over the bars to get more information about the activities of daily life and be ready to be stunned! You may also make use of the sliders below to change the perspective.
The above graph is obtained with a detailed list of things that we do in our daily lives, as shown below. For more information about the calculations and sources, you can click here.
So, after looking at the results I think it is safe to say that it feels like an achievement when you say, “I was productive today” or in other words “I feel useful”. Maybe after this post, we would be more cautious and spend every second of our days wisely. No more pooping with mobile phones, no more spending those long nights watching YouTube videos. I bet we do a lot more activities in our daily lives and make the tally higher! Let’s be more productive and buy a food processor for our potatoes 🤣.
PS: I spent about 10 hours of my life writing this useless post, which wasted almost 3 minutes of yours reading it. Now, spend another minute and give us a nice comment below with your thoughts/suggestions 😊
